1 3/4 c Natural Rolled Oats
1 1/2 c All Purpose Flour
1 c Light Brown Sugar
1 tsp Baking Soda
1/2 tsp Salt
3/4 c Butter
3/4 lb California Grown Cooking Dates (Date Filling)
1/2 c Walnuts Halves and Pieces (Date Filling)
1/2 c Sugar (Date Filling)
2 tbsp Lemon Juice (Date Filling)
1/2 c Water (Date Filling)
Mix dry ingredients and work in butter thoroughly. Pack Half of mixture in bottom of greased 8x8x2-inch pan. Cover with date filling.
Boil dates, sugar, 1/8 tsp. salt and water until thick. Remove and cool. Add lemon juice and walnuts. Add remaining crumb mixture, pressing down well. Bake at 375 degrees about 40 minutes. Cut in squares. Makes about 16 squares.
